Going Deeper
This section is provided for those who may wish to spend time this week going deeper with the material from the sermon, or for study in small groups. This is an optional opportunity to take the message and internalize and deepen your understanding. Small groups are welcome to do pieces of this as time allows.
This week spend time discovering and savoring the hope you have because of Christmas (and Easter J). There are a number of texts in the Bible which speak to our hope as Christians including Ephesians 1:3-14, Hebrews 6:11-20, and 1 Peter 1:3-25. Choose one of these passages and spend the week considering what it teaches you about Christmas hope.
Here are some questions to consider as you study…
1) How does one come into possession of Christmas hope?
2) What attributes of God support Christmas hope?
3) How is hope defined or described in this passage? What words modify it?
4) How does the passage indicate you can “use” your hope? What good is it to you?
5) Would you describe Christmas hope as something that is realized now, soon, in eternity, or all of these? How so?
6) How does hope change you? What would life be like without hope? What would be missing?
7) Where does your confidence come from that your hope is sure? What is the object of hope that provides a sure foundation?
8) If you have lost hope, where should you look to find it?
