Psalm 97 Questions
1) What is the appropriate response to the truth that Yahweh (LORD) reigns? What is the extent of God’s rule?
2) How do you think most people react to this statement of God’s rule? Why?
3) What attributes are attributed to God? How does this affect God’s rule?
4) What does the Psalm challenge you to do in response to God’s reign?
5) What does justice look like from God’s perspective?
6) Consider the place of Jesus in this Psalm… how could Jesus’ completed work on the cross speak to your understanding or experience of this Psalm? How do you relate to the Psalm as a Christian?
Psalm 99 Questions
1) What popular conceptions of God does this Psalm correct?
2) What image and response are created in the first verse?
3) What thoughts are repeated in the Psalm?
4) Does God relate to all people the same way? What changes how God responds to people?
5) How does the work of Jesus inform your understanding of this Psalm?
6) What are we called to do in response to God’s rule? What is the compelling reason for us to do this?
7) How does this Psalm speak to your life?
Choose one of the Psalms and try to memorize it this week. You can recite it in the car, on a walk, write it a few times in a journal, put it on a note card, share it with a friend, but most of all, take time this week to do what it says… “Rejoice in the LORD…” or “Exalt the LORD our God…”
