Lesson 4: How to fight under the banner of Jesus
5/29/11
Exodus 17:8-16
“Moses built an altar and called it, ‘The LORD is My Banner.’” (17:16)
I. Remember __________________________________ (v. 14-16)
“… having disarmed the powers and authorities… triumphing over them by the cross.” (Col. 2:14)
II. Recognize ______________________________________ (v.8)
“… So you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Eph. 6:11)
III. Realize _____________________________________ (v.9-13)
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God…” (Eph. 6:10-11a)
Going Deeper
This section is provided for those who may wish to spend time this week going deeper with the material from the sermon, or for study in small groups. This is an optional opportunity to take the message and internalize and deepen your understanding. Small groups are welcome to do pieces of this as time allows.
This week spend time reading Ephesians 6:10-20. These questions are provided to assist your study. Feel free to look at other resources or other passages.
Note: When considering the reality of spiritual warfare, avoid two unhealthy positions. First, do not fall prey to the idea that there is NO such thing as spiritual forces and evil. Second, do not get completely entangled into seeing EVERYTHING as an issue of spiritual warfare. Rather, treat the issue biblically – spiritual evil is real, Jesus has already won, trust in Him and live in the strength that comes from His work. Basically – don’t ignore the Bible’s teaching and don’t go beyond the Bible’s emphasis.
