As I look back on 6 years and many 100’s of hours of “eldering” the first word that comes to mind is THANKFUL.
I am thankful for a church family that is quick to serve, generous in giving, faithful to the Word of God, dependent in prayer, open to new people and quick to care for one another.
I am thankful for some key new additions:
1. The Richmond family
2. Jerome and Mary Ellen
3. The intern program
4. And most recently Dave Geimen
I am thankful for those who have faithfully served like Dale and Pastor Bill and SO MANY OTHERS!
For those who serve in a variety of ways – greeters, ushers, communion preparers, coffee makers, sound operators, worship team participants, children’s workers, Sunday school teachers, decorators, and custodial helpers. Bible study, prayer meeting, life group and worship team leaders. For men’s, and women’s ministry leaders. For college and youth volunteers. For cookie, dessert and lunch providers. Those that care for our staff, finances, church grounds, buildings and properties. Kitchen team, prime time helpers and those who care for our library. Those that serve on committees, boards, initiatives and special events. I know I have not covered everyone or everything, but I am grateful for so many who “administer God’s grace” in so many ways (I Pet. 4:10).
I am thankful for our pastors, staff, key leaders, support teams and missionaries around the world.
I am thankful for the Chinese church and other ministries that share our building.
I am thankful for new people in our church, for those that have come to know and follow Jesus, for those that have been baptized, become members and have joined our church.
I am thankful for God’s faithfulness, the gift of His Spirit, the power of a resurrected Jesus, an authoritative Scripture and a supportive, active local body.
I am thankful for trusting, partnering, unity among believers in our city, for college students in our midst and international students from around the world at our doorstep.
You get the point. God is working in us and through us and we have much to be thankful for. However, to whom much is given – much is required! I am praying we will continue:
1. To serve with the strength God provides (I Pet. 4:10)
2. Be salt and light to those God brings into our world (Matt. 5:13 – 17).
3. Be good stewards of all God has blessed us with as individuals and as a church body (Matt. 25 parable of the talents).
4. Be devoted to prayer (Col. 4:2 – 6).
