In the church at Antioch, about 2000 years ago, something awesome happened. Two men – Barnabas and Paul – were set apart by the Holy Spirit in a prayer meeting at a local church and called by God to go to places where Jesus was not known, in what is modern day Turkey, and seek to preach the gospel and plant churches. That was the first mission sending church and every one subsequently ought to continue this Holy Spirit sensing and mission sending model. We have and continue to. We think of mission as a way to understand our existence. Kind of like worship, there is not a time we’re not doing mission. We do mission in word and deed. We engage in mission to the nations and our neighbors.
